Heart of the Past
Heart of the Past is a current OCAD U thesis project from the term 2022 - 2023.
Heart of the Past is a 2D role-playing, narrative game that explores the concept of reconnecting with oneself and rekindling one’s love for making art when one might consider giving up. The game's overall message is to have faith in one’s own abilities, and the unique voice each individual carries.
It is made in RPG Maker MV. All assets are made in Aseprite. Music is done by Ricci Ebron.

Gameplay
The environments they explore are reminiscent to other similar role-playing games such as Rakuen by Laura Shigihara, OMORI by OMOCAT, Undertale by Toby Fox, and lastly, Nintendo’s Mother 3 by Hal Laboratory, all of which feature dreamlike worlds that blur the line between reality and fantasy.
The mechanics of the game involve world-building via player interactions and quest completion. It maintains a balance between a lighthearted atmosphere and a more serious tone when dealing with Estelle's doubts.
